The patch modifies an existing copy of Spectre so that the 'Spectre Settings' file will now be stored in the preferences folder and will also have a distinctive icon.
I have also listed a few cheats.
Warning: only use this patch on a copy of Spectre and do not delete the original until you are certain that there are no adverse effects.
• To install the patch
1 Run ResEdit and open Spectre Enhancements and Spectre.
2 Select all of the resources in the Spectre Enhancements file and copy (Command-C).
3 Select the Spectre window and paste (command-V).
4 You will be asked if you want to replace the existing resources, choose yes.
5 Close Spectre and save changes.
6 Quit ResEdit.
7 Move the Spectre Settings file into the preferences folder. System 6 users may not have a preferences folder. If this your case create one, and be sure it is named "Preferences" (without quotes).
8 Test the modified Spectre and if it works delete the original.
9 Restart holding down the command and option keys until you are asked if you want to rebuild the Desktop file. Choose Ok (it is only nessecary to do this on the disk the modified Spectre is on).
• Noteworthy items (* indicates that the item also works with Spectre Supreme)
*Hold down option as you click the play button to start at a higher level.
*Pause the game and type 'God' for an overview of the arena (for Spectre Supreme just 'o' will do it)
*The serial number and who it is registered to is stored in STR id 997 and if this resource is deleted you can re-register it. say you own several copies of Spectre and one day you bring your PowerBook over to a friends house. Your friend wants to play Spectre against you but you only have one copy on your PowerBook's hard drive. So instead of running back to your house to get your other copy(ies) you can just make a copy of your existing Spectre, delete the STR id 997 resource then run the modified Spectre and re-register it with one of your other serial numbers.
• When playing against a human opponent
you cannot be damaged when your game is paused. Just pause it and let them waste all their ammo and then attack.
If you are damaged and being chased pause it and after they realize you are paused. Then unpause it but don't move. If you are lucky they will think you are still paused and wait for you to move. In the meantime your damage will be slowly repaired.
Pause it and then hold down a motion key for about 2 seconds and while still holding it down unpause it and you will jump in the corresponding direction.
This patch is freeware. You may freely distribute as long as is is unmodified and includes this documentation file but do not sell it or bundle or any part of it with a commercial product.
